The Esports World Cup Foundation has signed a three-year deal with Riot Games. What does this mean? Riot’s top esports games won’t just be part of the tournament—they’ll be front and center.
Unlike last year, where Riot barely mentioned EWC, this time, they’re going all in. Expect special promotions during Riot’s biggest events, like LoL Esports, VALORANT Champions Tour (VCT), and TFT global tournaments.
Last year, Riot kept its distance. In one League of Legends European Championship (LEC) broadcast, the EWC was vaguely referred to as “the tournament we did away from here.” But that’s changing fast. In 2025, Riot is fully involved.
More Teams, More Action, More Excitement
We don’t know all the details about the tournament format yet, but one thing is sure—2025 will be more intense than ever. Here’s what to expect:

- VALORANT: The biggest event outside of the VCT circuit.

The 2024 EWC hit 1.1 million peak viewers during the LoL grand final between T1 and Top Esports. With Riot backing the event this time, those numbers could go through the roof.
Will VALORANT’s Game Changers Be Included?
Rumors are swirling about whether VALORANT’s Game Changers—a tournament for women and marginalized genders—will be part of EWC 2025.
In late 2024, a leaked document claimed Game Changers was in the lineup. Riot initially denied it, saying the decision hadn’t been made yet. But the EWCF has hinted that the final list of tournaments, prize pools, and team selections will be announced soon.
