Background:

DeBiedma grew up playing the piano and singing a cappella. He became interested in video games at an early age, particularly the Super Mario Advance series, and began playing Melee when he was a small child after being introduced to the game by the stepson of one of his father’s coworkers. He and Fermin would frequently play Super Smash Bros. Brawl together. Luis “Crunch” Rosias, DeBiedma’s future manager and lifetime best friend, and they met when they were in the fifth grade in Orlando. They played Melee together a lot. Ness was his main character at first, but after seeing how efficient the “Rest” technique was, he switched to Jigglypuff.

In middle school, he tried to fake his mother’s signature but came up with something that looked more like a sketch, leading to the eventual name “Hungrybox.” When he was bored in class, he continued to recreate the image, which led to the creation of the “hungry box” character, which resembles a box with eyes and a jagged mouth.

DeBiedma’s father Juan Daniel abandoned him when he was 15 years old; the last time they saw one another was on July 20, 2008, when Juan Daniel dropped him off at the location of the Brawl tournament Fast 1. Juan Daniel then left for Argentina, and DeBiedma hasn’t seen him since.
