One of India’s biggest mobile gaming events is making headlines again. BGIS 2025 (Battlegrounds Mobile India Series) is not only returning, but it’s coming back with a massive prize pool of ₹3.2 crore ($374,763). The event will take place in Kolkata, and it’s already creating a huge buzz in the esports world.
Why Prize Money Matters in Esports
In esports, prize pools are more than just money. For teams and players, it means everything from better contracts to more sponsors. In India, many gaming organizations depend on these earnings to plan how much to spend on their teams.
India has one of the largest mobile phone user bases in the world. Also, the internet here is cheaper than most other countries. That’s why mobile games like BGMI and Free Fire MAX are so popular in the country.
From Good to Great: BGIS 2025 Prize Pool Gets a Boost
When Krafton first revealed BGIS 2025, the prize pool was the same as last year: ₹2 crore ($234,300). But things changed quickly.
At an event in Delhi, Krafton announced something new: they introduced a special crate inside the BGMI game, and all the money made from it would go into the tournament prize.
On April 16, Krafton confirmed they were adding an extra ₹1.2 crore ($140,536). This made BGIS 2025 the highest-paying mobile esports tournament in India.
Is BGIS 2025 Among the Biggest in the World?
Now, this raises a big question is this one of the top prize pools in global mobile esports?
Let’s compare:
- Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) – Their top leagues (MPL Philippines & MPL Indonesia) have prize pools of $150,000 and $288,673.
- Honor of Kings (HOK) – Two of its 2024 events offered $150,000 each.
- PUBG Mobile Global Open 2025 – Held in Uzbekistan, had a $500,000 prize.
So while BGIS doesn’t top all of them, it’s close and climbing fast especially for a regional tournament.
India’s Growing Place in the Global Esports Scene
The Esports World Cup has raised prize pools worldwide. Many games now offer $1 million or more per event. Though BGMI isn’t yet part of the Esports World Cup, it’s still growing rapidly.
One of India’s top players, Scout, recently said on his stream that a BGMI team in India costs around ₹10 lakh ($11,711) per month. This covers salaries for five players and one coach.
Scout’s team, Revenant XSpark, had a huge 2024. They won both major Indian events BGIS and BMPS 2024, and earned nearly ₹4 crore ($478,807) from just those two tournaments.
Government Support and Local Tournaments Rising
Things are also changing on the official side. The Indian government is slowly warming up to esports.
For example:
- Tamil Nadu recently announced its own esports event, Chennai Esports Global Championship, coming in 2025.
- The BGMI roadmap for the second half of 2025 will be shared at the end of the BGIS 2025 event.
This shows that not only are the players improving, but India as a country is stepping up in esports.
