The Santiago 2023 Pan American Games, America’s largest multisport event, will have a new attraction this October. At the inaugural Pan American Esports Championships (#PEC23), Chile’s capital Santiago will welcome the best athletes from the Americas participating in 39 sports, as well as esports athletes playing in two prominent esports titles – eFootballTM 2023 and Dota 2.

#PEC23 will be held at Santiago’s National Stadium Sports Park, according to the Global Esports Federation and Panam Sports. Competitions in both the Open and Women divisions will take place alongside the sports schedule of the Pan American Games Santiago 2023. This allows esports athletes and teams to compete for national honours as well.

“The first Pan American Esports Championships in Santiago 2023 will be an outstanding occasion that brings together our #worldconnected community, fans, and new friends who are unfamiliar with this fascinating world of esports and gaming,” stated GEF CEO Paul J. Foster. “We are collaborating with Panam Sports to provide an unforgettable experience for the athletes and spectators who will attend this innovative digital sports and entertainment festival.”

“The Pan American Esports Championships give us the opportunity to engage a new generation of youth through an activity that they are passionate about and that is trending globally,” said Neven Ilic, President of Panam Sports. Spectators attending the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games at the National Stadium will be treated to an exhibition of innovation as well as a high-level esports tournament featuring some of our continent’s finest esports players.”

With a wide and exciting lineup of global events on the horizon, the GEF #worldconnected community continues to thrive and develop. The Pan American Esports Championships in Santiago, the European Esports Championships in Poland, and the Riyadh 2023 Global Esports Games in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are all linked by the mission to bring together the best in the world of esports, and they all demonstrate the diversity and passion of the #worldconnected.

The GEF is dedicated to promoting and celebrating esports in the Americas, Europe, Asia, Africa, and Oceania, and is delighted to have its community represented in every corner of the globe.

These are the games that will be played during this championship:

  • e-Football

eFootballTM 2023 is a groundbreaking football simulation game. Konami has transformed the legendary video game property into a platform that aspires for realism and authenticity at its core.

Using the newly developed Unreal game engine, eFootball raises the bar for football video games with lifelike graphics and silky-smooth player movements.

eFootballTM 2023 is the next generation of football gaming and is available for free on mobile, PC, and console devices.

  • DOTA 2

Valve owns DOTA 2, a 5v5 MOBA. A multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) is a strategy video game subgenre in which two teams of players combat on a specified battleground. Each player controls a single character with a unique set of powers that improve over the course of a game and contribute to the overall strategy of the team. Each team’s ultimate goal is to destroy their opponent’s main structure, which is located in the opposite corner of the battlefield.

About the Venue

The Pan American and Parapan American games will be held in the Estadio Nacional. Apart from the old coliseum, which will host athletics, Santiago 2023 will leave behind 11 new and rebuilt venues, including the arena for the Pan American Esports Championships 2023.  The Estadio Nacional is located in the Ñuñoa neighbourhood, about 5 kilometres southeast of Santiago’s historic centre (Centro).
