On Tuesday, Sony finally announced the PlayStation Pro. The pre-orders will be available from PlayStation at direct.playstation.com and at participating retailers in areas where direct.playstation.com isn’t available, from September 26th, 2024.
The newly launched PlayStation Pro has better graphics, advanced ray-tracing, improved image quality with AI upscaling, and a larger 2TB SSD for storage. As per Sony, it is their most advanced console ever. However, the only drawback is that it doesn’t come with a disc drive built-in. If you need one, you will have to buy and attach a disc drive separately.
The PS5 Pro was shown off at a Sony event, where Mark Cerny, the lead designer of the console explained the new features. While on the regular PS5, players can usually choose between two graphic modes – Fidelity for better visuals and Performance for smoother gameplay but with the launch of PS5 Pro, Sony aims to give the best of both to the players, with better image quality and frame rates of 60fps on most new games.
PS5 Pro upgrades and features:
Upgraded GPU: The PS5 Pro comes with a GPU that has 67% more Compute Units and 28% faster memory than the regular PS5. This boosts rendering speeds by up to 45%, making gameplay smoother.
Advanced Ray Tracing: The PS5 Pro features enhanced ray tracing for better reflections and lighting. It processes rays two to three times faster than the current PS5.
AI-Driven Upscaling: The PS5 Pro introduces PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, a new AI technology that improves image clarity and detail by using machine learning to upscale images.
Sony has announced that some games will get free updates to take advantage of the new PS5 Pro features. These updated games will have a ‘PS5 Pro Enhanced’ label. The list of games getting these updates includes:
- Alan Wake 2
- Assassin’s Creed: Shadows
- Demon’s Souls
- Dragon’s Dogma 2
- Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
- Gran Turismo 7
- Hogwarts Legacy
- Horizon Forbidden West
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
