After more than four years, Fortnite is finally returning to iOS in the United States. Players who have been waiting patiently can now get ready to jump back into the game on their iPhones and iPads. This marks a big moment for mobile gamers, Epic Games, and the Fortnite community.
Fortnite’s Return to iOS: The Long Wait Ends
Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney confirmed the news. He said that Fortnite will be back on the US iOS App Store next week. This is after four years, four months, and 17 days of waiting since the game was removed due to legal battles between Epic and Apple.
Sweeney also offered a deal. He said that if Apple allows the same app rules around the world (like in Europe), Epic will drop all lawsuits and fully bring Fortnite back to the App Store everywhere.
What Was the Issue Before?
Epic and Apple had a major clash over Apple’s high commission fees (15–30%) on in-app purchases. These were called “junk fees” by Sweeney. But now, under the Digital Markets Act in Europe, and with new developments in the US, these fees are no longer allowed.
Sweeney made it clear:
“Apple’s 15-30% junk fees are now just as dead here in the United States of America as they are in Europe under the Digital Markets Act. Unlawful here, unlawful there.”
This change opened the door for Fortnite to return.
Perfect Timing: Star Wars Season Is Coming
The timing couldn’t be better. Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 3, which is Star Wars-themed, begins on May 2, 2025. iOS players will return just in time for this exciting new season.
