It’s Over: Ubisoft Cancels Prince Of Persia Remake For Good

Ubisoft has officially stopped work on the Prince of Persia Sands of Time remake. The company confirmed that the long-awaited game will not be released.

This decision is part of a bigger change inside Ubisoft. The company is making major cuts and shifts in how it develops games. Along with this remake, several other projects have also been canceled or delayed.

Why Ubisoft Canceled the Game

Ubisoft said it is changing its main focus. The company now wants to put more time and money into open-world games and live-service titles. These are games that keep getting updates and new content over a long period.

The CEO of Ubisoft explained that making big games has become more expensive and risky. It is also harder to build new game brands that can succeed for many years. Because of this, the company decided to be more selective about what it works on.

Other Changes at Ubisoft

The Prince of Persia remake is not the only project affected. Ubisoft has also canceled several unannounced games, including new ideas that were still in early stages. A mobile game was also dropped.

On top of this, some game studios under Ubisoft will be closed, and job cuts are expected. The company says these steps are needed to run things better and focus on the most important projects.

New Creative Teams at Ubisoft

Ubisoft is now working with a new system. It has created different creative groups, each focused on a certain type of game.

  • One group will handle big action series like Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry.
  • Another will focus on shooting games like The Division and Ghost Recon.
  • One team will work on live-service games that get regular updates.
  • There is also a group for fantasy and story-driven games, which includes Prince of Persia and Rayman.
  • The final group will focus on casual and family-friendly games like Just Dance and Uno.

Each group will make decisions on its own and manage its own budget. Ubisoft believes this will help games be made faster and closer to what players want.

What This Means for Prince of Persia Fans

The Sands of Time remake was first announced back in 2020. It went through many delays and changes over the years. Now, with this cancellation, that chapter has officially ended.

Even though this remake is no longer happening, the Prince of Persia series is not completely silent. Ubisoft recently released other games in the series, which helped keep the brand alive.
