The GTA series has never just been about missions or storylines. A lot of what made the older games memorable came from the smaller systems working in the background. Over time, especially by the time GTA V released, some of those features quietly faded out. Now with GTA 6 on the way, there’s a strong case for bringing a few of them back.
What stood out in older titles was how much control players had, not just over the story, but over the world itself. Some of that depth feels missing now, and it’s exactly what could make the next game feel more complete.
Features Rockstar Should Seriously Consider Bringing Back
Deeper Vehicle Customization
It’s not just about paint jobs and spoilers. Earlier games, especially San Andreas, let players tune cars in ways that actually changed performance. Cars felt different depending on how you built them. That kind of detail added personality to vehicles, something that could easily be expanded in a modern setting.

Body Transformation System
San Andreas did something very few games have tried since. Your character’s body changed based on what you did. Eat too much and you’d gain weight, spend time in the gym and you’d build muscle. It wasn’t just visual either, it affected stamina and strength. It made the character feel connected to your actions in a way newer games haven’t really explored.
Safehouses That Actually Matter
Buying properties used to feel like progress. You had reasons to unlock new safehouses, and they served more than just being a save point. In GTA V, they were there, but they didn’t feel important. Giving them real purpose again, maybe tied to income or mission advantages, would make them worth caring about.
Meaningful Side Activities
Older GTA games were full of small distractions that actually held your attention. Whether it was playing pool or taking part in random challenges, these activities felt like part of the world. In newer titles, they’re there, but not as engaging. Making them more interactive and rewarding would help the world feel less like a backdrop.
More Dynamic NPC Behaviour
One thing older games did well was unpredictability. You could recruit gang members, trigger random reactions, or just see things play out differently each time. That kind of interaction made the world feel alive. Bringing that back, with modern AI, could take it to another level.
GTA 6 doesn’t need to reinvent everything. Some of the best ideas are already there from past games. Bringing back these systems, and improving them, could be what makes the next GTA feel truly complete.
