Belgium has taken a new step to control illegal online gambling. The country has introduced a system that allows faster blocking of gambling websites that operate without a valid license. This move gives the Gambling Commission stronger powers to act against platforms that target Belgian players illegally.
The goal is simple. Reduce access to unlicensed gambling sites and protect local users.
Gambling Commission Gets More Control Over Domains
Belgium’s Gambling Commission is now working directly with DNS Belgium, the body that manages national internet domains. With this cooperation, the regulator can quickly identify websites that break Belgian gambling laws.
Once a suspicious website is reported, DNS Belgium contacts the site owner and informs them about the violation. If the operator does not respond or refuses to follow the rules, the domain can be changed or temporarily suspended.
When users try to visit these blocked websites, they are redirected to an official warning page. This message is shown in both Dutch and French so it can reach most Belgian users.
This system allows the regulator to act faster without waiting for long court procedures.
Part of a Bigger Gambling Control Plan
This new method is not a standalone rule. It fits into Belgium’s larger plan to control online gambling. The Gambling Commission has already been maintaining a blacklist of unlicensed gambling websites for several years.
Internet service providers in Belgium are required to block access to websites listed on this blacklist. By adding direct domain control, the regulator has created an extra layer of enforcement.
This makes it harder for illegal operators to return under new domain names or avoid detection.
Strong Focus on Player Safety
Belgian authorities continue to focus on player protection and legal compliance. By reducing access to unregulated gambling websites, the government aims to limit financial risk and unfair practices faced by players.
The new system also sends a clear message to offshore operators that Belgium is serious about enforcing its gambling laws.
