EA Acquired In A 55bn Dollar Deal: Who acquired Electronic Arts In The Largest Leveraged Buyout
EA has been acquired by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, Silver Lake, and Jared Kushner’s Affinity Partners.
This is being considered as one of the largest buyouts in history that has been leveraged, meaning that a significant amount of the money used for purchasing EA has been financed by borrowing money.
The deal includes an equity investment of 36 billion dollars, of which 20 billion dollars falls within the category of debt financing from the American Multinational Finance corporation, JPMorgan Chase.
The remaining 18 billion dollars will also be financed when the transactions wrap up.
Saudi Arabia’s growing presence in the gaming market
Saudi Arabia has been working on expanding its presence in the gaming market for the past couple of years.
Recently, in March 2025, Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) bought the gaming division of developer Niantic, whose titles include the hit mobile game Pokémon Go, for a whopping 3.5 billion dollars, and the EA purchase marks a significant extension of its reach.
What does this deal mean for EA?

- EA will no longer be listed on the stock exchange for trading, and all of its public shares will be purchased.
- 210 Dollars per share will be received by each shareholder.
- EA Headquarters will remain in Redwood, California.
What does it mean for the gamers?
EA CEO Andrew Wilson said that – “ Our creative and passionate teams at EA have delivered extraordinary experiences for hundreds of millions of fans, built some of the world’s most iconic IP, and created significant value for our business. This moment is a powerful recognition of their remarkable work.”
He added that – “Looking ahead, we will continue to push the boundaries of entertainment, sports, and technology, unlocking new opportunities. Together with our partners, we will create transformative experiences to inspire generations to come. I am more energized than ever about the future we are building.”
Fans who are concerned about the upcoming franchises of their favorite games, like Mass Effect and Dead Space, among others, also need not worry.

With the Battlefield 6 launch coming up on October 10, 2025, for both PC and Consoles, along with the remastered version of Plants Vs Zombies up next, fans are excited. EA has recently launched EA FC 26 worldwide in September 2025 on multiple modern gaming platforms.
