The Esports World Cup Foundation has officially revealed how national teams will be formed and managed for the Esports Nations Cup 2026. Along with this announcement, applications are now open for National Team Partners who will help run and represent their countries at the event.
The Esports Nations Cup will make its debut in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in November 2026. Unlike club-based tournaments, this competition will focus on national pride, with players competing under their country’s flag. The event will take place every two years and is designed to sit alongside the Esports World Cup.
Role of National Team Partners
Under the new system, approved National Team Partners will take charge of their country’s participation in the Esports Nations Cup. Their main duties include selecting players, supporting coaches across different game titles, and coordinating with publishers, esports teams, and the Esports World Cup Foundation.
These partners will also work beyond just competition. They will help shape the identity of the national team through marketing, media work, and fan engagement. This includes working with content creators, press, and public bodies to grow support and interest in national esports teams.
Each partner must appoint a National Team Manager. This person will act as the main representative of the team and the key contact point, with final approval coming from the Esports World Cup Foundation.
Careful Selection Process Planned
The Foundation has confirmed that the selection process for National Team Partners will be strict. Only organisations that meet governance, experience, and operational standards will be approved. The aim is to ensure fairness, stability, and long-term growth for national esports teams around the world.
$20 Million Annual Development Fund Announced
To support this structure, the Esports World Cup Foundation will launch a dedicated ENC Development Fund, committing at least $20 million every year, starting with the 2026 edition.
This fund will help cover travel, accommodation, and logistics for national teams. It will also support activities outside the main tournament, such as training camps, bootcamps with fans, exhibition matches, watch parties, and appearances at gaming and sports events. The goal is to help countries build strong esports cultures, not just one-time teams.

Speaking about the initiative, Ralf Reichert, CEO of the Esports World Cup Foundation, explained that the project is part of a wider plan to make esports more structured at a global level. He said the new framework gives countries clear roles, strong leadership, and a system that benefits players, game publishers, and fans alike.
Application Timeline
Applications for National Team Partners are open until January 31, 2026. The first group of approved partners is expected to be announced in early 2026, with more details about the Esports Nations Cup to be shared soon after.
