Riot Removes Talon Esports After Major Financial Trouble

Talon Esports has officially been removed from both League of Legends and Valorant after months of financial struggles that left the organization unable to pay its players and staff. Riot Games has now cut ties with the team, bringing an end to their long run in two of the biggest esports titles.

This move follows growing signs that Talon was fighting to stay afloat, and despite attempts to make heavy cuts in 2025, the organization could not recover.

Talon Esports’ Financial Collapse

Talon has been a familiar name in esports for nearly a decade. They enjoyed success across multiple titles, especially in League of Legends. But rumors of money problems had been circulating for months. Their sudden exits from Dota 2, Counter-Strike 2, TFT, and various fighting games earlier this year hinted at a serious financial crisis.

Those cuts were not enough. As their situation worsened, Talon could no longer pay the roster or manage operations in Riot’s ecosystem. Because of this, Riot Games had no choice but to remove them from both leagues and look for new organizations to fill their slots.

A Sad End for PSG Talon

The League of Legends division, PSG Talon, was one of the strongest teams to ever come from a minor region. They made history by consistently taking games off major region teams and proving they belonged on the world stage. Many fans believed their performance helped push their region toward major-region status.

But their final showing at Worlds 2025 was a rough one, ending winless and marking the end of an era.

Their Valorant division didn’t reach the same heights, but they still made appearances at international events and showed promise. Now, that future is gone.

Talon’s Official Statement

Talon shared the same message for both departures, explaining why they were unable to continue:

“Our current financial difficulties are primarily the result of several months of delays in funding from our current financing round, which was originally scheduled to be completed much earlier this year. These delays have significantly affected our esports business operations across the board.”

They added that Riot worked with them for weeks to try to fix things, but the situation was too severe to continue.

What Happens to the Players?

This is where things get tough.

Valorant players: PSG is trying to help these players find a new organization within the VCT Pacific league.
League of Legends players: They currently have no team and no organization backing them.

Many top names, including long-time stars like Maple, must now search for new opportunities during a difficult off-season.

Is This the End of Talon Esports?

Although Talon still has teams in Arena of Valor and Rainbow Six, all other operations have stopped completely. With most of their divisions already shut down, there’s a real possibility these remaining teams may also be affected next.

Talon’s collapse marks one of the biggest organizational failures in modern esports, and it serves as a reminder of how unstable the industry can become when long-term funding falls through.
