Casinos May Soon Be Legal in Thailand, Tourism Could Get a Boost
The Thai government has taken a step that could change both the economy and tourism of the country. The government recently approved a draft law called the Entertainment Complex Business Act, which allows setting up casinos inside large entertainment complexes.
First Legal Casinos in the Country

Casinos Games
Until now, gambling was mostly banned in Thailand. People used online platforms to bet on lotteries or sports. But with this new law, the government is planning to open real casinos, which could help local businesses and improve Thailand’s image in tourism.
Entry Rules for Local People
The plan says that Thai citizens cannot enter casinos freely. They will have to pay an entry fee of 5,000 Baht, and in some cases, they must show proof of at least 50 million Baht in a bank account. This shows that the government wants to protect locals from gambling problems.
However, the government is open to changing these rules to make them easier for local people if needed.
No Limits for Foreign Tourists

Casino Legalization in Thailand
This plan mainly focuses on tourists from outside the country. Rich tourists from countries like China, Japan, and South Korea are the main target. Thailand hopes that these casinos will bring up to 10% more visitors, and the country could earn around 120 to 220 billion Baht every year.
Also, the law could create 9,000 to 15,000 new jobs, which will help many people in the country.

More Than Just Casinos
These entertainment complexes will not only have casinos. They will also include hotels, shopping malls, theme parks, and conference centers. The rule says that only 10% of the total area can be used for gambling. The rest will be for tourism and family fun.
Competing with Neighbor Countries
Thailand wants to follow the path of countries like Cambodia and Singapore, where legal and safe gambling helps the economy. In 2024, the global casino industry made over 305 billion dollars. Now, Thailand also wants to benefit from this, but in a safe and controlled way.
This new plan is not just about casinos. It is a part of Thailand’s bigger plan to grow its economy and become a top place for tourists. If everything goes well, Thailand could soon become a big name in international tourism and entertainment.
