Major Regulatory Changes Unveiled at iGB Live 2025
She explained that the Commission has been rolling out major updates this year, following the 2023 review of the Gambling Act. Among the key changes are new rules on how much people can deposit and tighter restrictions on gambling promotions.
These new measures aim to change how betting companies interact with customers, creating a safer and more responsible gambling environment across the country.
Deposit Limits to Become Mandatory from October 31
Starting October 31, 2025, all gambling companies in the UK will need to ask customers to set a spending limit before they make their first deposit. This marks a big step forward in protecting players and encouraging safer gambling habits.
The UK Gambling Commission is also updating the technical side of things to make sure player tools are easier to use. These updates will help customers set and manage deposit limits more smoothly across their online accounts.
At the same time, the rules around promotions are getting stricter. From December 19, 2025, gambling operators won’t be allowed to offer mixed product promotions anymore, and bonus wagering will be capped at 10 times the bonus amount.
Helen Rhodes from the Gambling Commission explained that high wagering requirements can be confusing and often lead people to gamble more than they planned. These changes are designed to make things clearer and fairer for everyone.
The UK Gambling Commission recently wrapped up its gaming machine consultation, which closed last month and drew around 1,000 responses. The main focus was on updating technical standards and strengthening safer gambling measures.
One key proposal is to simplify the system by merging 12 separate technical documents into a single, clearer compliance framework. Another important change would require all machines to show players their net position (how much they’ve won or lost) and how long they’ve been playing in a session.
Gaming Machine Rules Under Review
The consultation also looked at ways to better support vulnerable players. One suggestion is to ban certain game features that let players speed up how quickly results are shown, which can lead to riskier behaviour.
The Commission says these updates are meant to protect those most at risk, while still allowing people who gamble responsibly to continue doing so with clear information and minimal disruption.
