The UK Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has banned five advertisements for social casino games, labeling them as “misleading.”

Companies Targeted in the Ban

The ASA focused on ads from Gamehaus, Huuuge Global, Mobee Co, SpinX, and Zeroo Gravity Games, claiming they did not clearly indicate that users “couldn’t win or withdraw any real-world money.”

ASA Bans Misleading Ads For Social Casino Games On TikTok

Due to the “misleading impressions” created by these ads—all of which ran on TikTok—they have been removed and are now under assessment by the ASA.

“These rulings form part of a wider piece of work on paid-for gambling-like ads, identified for investigation following intelligence we’ve gathered,” the ASA stated.

“The rules are clear, these ads shouldn’t mislead consumers by creating the impression that they can win real-world prizes if this isn’t the case.”

According to a press release from the ASA, TikTok has responded to the controversy by emphasizing its advertising restrictions on social casino games. These rules prohibit content that equates social gaming with real gambling or suggests that monetary earnings are possible. TikTok confirmed that the ads in question were removed for violating these policies.

TikTok informed the ASA that “restrictions applied to the advertising of social casino games on their platform and that included the prohibition of content implying that users could earn real-world money or where direct comparisons to gambling were made.”

This incident is part of a broader effort by the ASA to address misleading advertisements from social casino brands. Companies like SpinX Games Ltd and Dataverse Co Limited have also faced bans for similar issues.

According to a report by iGaming Business, these brands have reportedly violated the UK Code of Non-broadcast Advertising and Direct & Promotional Marketing (CAP Code), particularly regarding misleading advertisements and the omission of essential information.

The Advertising Standards Association (ASA) has directed Huuuge Global Ltd. and other businesses to make sure that any future ads do not suggest that players can win real money or material prizes. In order to ensure that consumers are aware of the differences between social casino games and real gambling, this law attempts to make that distinction clear.
