Japan and China Lead the Esports Lineup
Most of these games? Developed by powerhouse gaming companies from Japan and China. Think Tencent’s TiMi Studios, Riot Games, Moonton, SEGA, and Konami. Notably, Konami’s eFootball Series has replaced EA Sports FC. A smart move, considering Japan is hosting the event.
Esports at the Asian Games: Growing Stronger
Esports officially became a medal sport at the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games (held in 2023 due to delays). Before that? It was just a demo event in 2018.
At Hangzhou, we saw seven games: Arena of Valor, DOTA 2, Dream Three Kingdoms 2, FIFA Online 4, League of Legends, PUBG Mobile, and Street Fighter V: Champion Edition. The 2026 edition? Even bigger! Running from September 9 to October 4, esports will stand alongside 41 traditional sports. Plus, the Asian Electronic Sports Federation (AESF) is backing the event, ensuring smooth operations.
No Dota 2 in 2026? A Shocking Omission
One of the biggest surprises? No Dota 2.
Dota 2 has been a fan favorite, but it didn’t make the cut this time. Why? Likely because of its complex tournament format and long match durations. When you’re juggling multiple events, scheduling and live broadcasts become a nightmare. Tough break for Dota 2 fans!
Why Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Is a Game-Changer
This isn’t just another tournament. The 2026 Asian Games will cement esports as a core part of global multi-sport competitions. The lineup covers a wide range of gaming genres, proving just how diverse and dynamic esports has become.
And the best part?
More details about tournament formats, prize pools, and schedules are on the way. Stay tuned—this is going to be huge!
