Mililla is a fun card game for 4 players, played in teams of 2. It’s all about winning rounds, scoring points, and trying to be the first team to reach 35 points. The game is full of strategy and smart moves, especially if you love trick-taking games.
Let’s break it down step by step so you can learn how to play and win.
How to Set Up Mililla
- Choose the first dealer randomly.
- The dealer shuffles the deck.
- The player to the left cuts the cards.
- The dealer gives 10 cards to each player.
- The last card goes to the dealer and is shown to everyone. This card decides the trump suit for that round.
If that last card has a point value, it gives a bonus score to the dealer’s team. But if this would make the dealer’s team win the game right away, those points are only added after the round ends.
Card Rankings (Highest to Lowest)
In Mililla, cards rank differently than normal:
- King (highest)
- Horse (like a Queen in some decks)
- Jack
- 7
- 6
- 5
- 4
- 3
- 2
- Ace (lowest)
The trump suit beats all other suits, no matter the rank.
Card Points
At the end of the round, only certain cards give you points:
- 7 = 5 points
- Ace = 4 points
- King = 3 points
- Horse = 2 points
- Jack = 1 point
- All other cards = 0 points
How to Play the Game
- The player to the right of the dealer starts the first trick.
- They can play any card to begin.
- All other players must follow the same suit if they can.
- If your opponents are winning the trick, you must try to beat their card if you can.
- 7s can’t be played unless you’re starting a trick or the suit has already been played earlier.
- If you can’t follow suit or beat the trick, you can play any card.
The trick is won by the highest trump card, or if there’s no trump, the highest card of the lead suit. The winner of the trick leads the next one.
How Scoring Works
After 10 tricks, the round ends.
Each team:
- Adds up the points from the cards they won
- Gets 1 extra point for each trick they won
There are a total of 70 points in each round.
- The team with 36 or more points subtracts 35 from their score and adds that to their game total.
- The other team scores 0.
- If both teams get 35 points, nobody scores that round.
If the dealer’s team had a bonus card that would make them win the game, it’s only added if the score is tied.
When Does the Game End?
The first team to reach 35 game points wins. It may take several rounds to get there.
