Sri Lanka to host first edition of SiGMA South Asia in 2025
South Asia, which is home to over 25% of the world’s population, is all set to host its first gaming summit as SiGMA will launch a new event for the South Asian markets in Sri Lanka.
SiGMA is scheduled to take place in Colombo from November 30 to December 2, 2025. The much-awaited summit promises to be a significant milestone for the gaming industry in the region.
A billion-dollar market with immense growth potential
With its tourism sector contributing $4.4 billion to its GDP, Sri Lanka is all set to redefine the gaming sector for South Asia, which represents a quarter of the world’s population. By the end of FY 2023, India’s gaming market will reach a remarkable $3.1 billion, becoming one of the fastest-growing sectors in the media and entertainment industry.
Rise of digital gaming in South Asia:
With a growth rate of 20% every year, experts predict that this market could surpass $7.5 billion by 2028. India’s mobile gaming segment is also growing rapidly, expected to have 239.63 million users by 2027. With 50 percent internet penetration and a growth in the online gaming industry, the future of the Indian gaming industry looks bright.
Pakistan’s growing gaming landscape:
Pakistan’s gaming market is also on the rise, with an estimated annual growth rate of 6.4 percent, which is expected to reach $0.51 billion by 2026. Increasing internet access, rising incomes, rapid adoption of mobile payments, and the country’s population growth have fueled the growth. By the end of fiscal year 2023, Pakistan will have 300 gaming studios and 257 game development companies, and the market could grow by 21.9%.
Sri Lanka’s first integrated resort and regulatory framework
Sri Lanka will launch its first integrated resort in 2025, a significant step towards becoming a popular gaming destination globally. To further strengthen its image as a well-regulated industry, the nation also plans to create a managing agency for the gaming industry.
SiGMA South Asia to welcome 5000 delegates
The SiGMA South Asia 2025 event is expected to welcome over 5,000 delegates, including government officials, regulators and representatives from major gaming companies. The event will include an expert-led speaker lineup, 800+ affiliates and showcases from the region’s top gaming companies.
