The GTA franchise by Rockstar Games is known for its unforgettable characters and is one of the most famous gaming franchises as well. The franchise has seen some legendary protagonists like CJ to Trevor Philips, and has delivered some of the most iconic personalities.
However, all characters are loved by fans. Some characters are remembered for all the wrong reasons: betrayal, poor decisions, or simply being incredibly annoying. Among all the disliked characters in the franchise, one name stands out above the rest: Lance Vance.
Who is Lance Vance?
For those unaware, Lance Vance first appeared in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City as the partner of the main protagonist, Tommy Vercetti. He was shown as a flashy and ambitious criminal who teams up with Tommy after the death of his brother.
Initially, Lance appears to be a loyal friend who helps Tommy navigate the criminal underworld of Vice City. However, things don’t stay the same for long.
What made GTA players hate him?
The reason fans consider Lance Vance one of the worst characters in GTA history is his betrayal. Throughout Vice City, he constantly complains about not receiving enough respect from Tommy. His insecurity and jealousy slowly grow as Tommy’s criminal empire expands.
Eventually, Lance betrays Tommy and joins forces with the main antagonist, Sonny Forelli. For people who spent the entire game working with him, this felt personal and frustrating. It forced players into a final showdown against someone who had been a trusted ally for most of the story.
Although Lance Vance can be considered the worst in our opinion, a few other characters also receive criticism from players: Big Smoke, Devin Weston, and Catalina are a few such names. However, unlike these characters, Lance Vance’s betrayal felt especially painful because players spent so much time trusting him.
That said, years after the release of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Lance Vance remains a symbol of betrayal in the GTA universe. Having earned the reputation as one of the worst characters the franchise has ever created. That said, do let us know who you think is the worst character in GTA?
