A major video game adaptation is officially heading to Hollywood as Battlefield is being developed into a feature film with Michael B. Jordan attached to produce and potentially star, while Christopher McQuarrie is set to write, direct, and produce. The project is currently being pitched to major studios including Apple and Sony Pictures, marking another strong push in Hollywood’s ongoing interest in turning major gaming franchises into films.
The movie is based on the long-running Battlefield series from Electronic Arts, one of the most successful military shooter franchises ever created. EA is also involved as a producer, which means the studio behind the games will have direct influence on how the story is shaped for the big screen.
Battlefield is built for large-scale warfare storytelling
At this stage, no official plot details have been confirmed, but the Battlefield series offers plenty of creative room to work with. Over the years, the games have covered different eras of combat, including World War II, modern-day warfare, Vietnam-inspired conflicts, and even near-future battles. That range gives filmmakers flexibility, whether they aim for a grounded military story or a more cinematic, large-scale war experience.
The timing of the project also works in its favour. Battlefield 6 recently became the best-selling game of 2025 in the United States, a milestone that saw the franchise finally surpass its long-time rival Call of Duty in annual sales rankings. That level of success has clearly increased interest from Hollywood studios looking for established global brands.
This is not the first time Battlefield has been considered for adaptation. Earlier attempts included discussions around a TV series and other development ideas, but none moved forward at this scale.
For Michael B. Jordan, the project fits naturally into his growing action-focused filmography. With roles in Creed, Black Panther, and Tom Clancy’s Without Remorse, he already has experience in physically demanding and combat-driven storytelling.
With McQuarrie’s involvement adding serious action credibility, Battlefield now enters Hollywood with strong creative backing. The real challenge will be turning its chaotic, team-based gameplay into a focused cinematic story that works for both gamers and general audiences.
