Overwatch 2 is at EWC 2026 as the OWCS 2026 Midseason Championship. July 29 to August 2, sixteen teams, one million dollars. Overwatch’s competitive scene has gone through significant changes over the past couple of years, and this tournament is a snapshot of where the game stands as an esport right now.
The New Competitive Structure
Overwatch League the franchise-based league that Blizzard ran for several years was shut down after the 2023 season. In its place came the OWCS Overwatch Champions Series. The new system is open, regional, and more accessible. Teams can rise from open qualifiers all the way to international competition without needing to own a franchise slot. For many in the community, this structure feels more like traditional esports and less like a closed commercial league.
The OWCS Midseason Championship at EWC is the reward for teams that performed well in Stage 2 across all regions. Korea, Japan, Pacific, North America, EMEA, and China all send their best. Sixteen teams total, which means the field is tight and every team has earned their place through real competition.
The Teams
Team Falcons are confirmed and have been one of the stronger international Overwatch rosters recently. Crazy Raccoon from Japan bring representation from the OWCS Japan region, which has produced competitive teams that often surprise at international events. 9z Team represents South America, showing how the OWCS system has created competitive ecosystems in regions that were not well represented under the old franchise model.
The rest of the field fills in through OWCS Stage 2 results from each region. By the time EWC starts, the qualifying results will be set and the bracket will be announced. The regional diversity in the field means there will be matchups between teams who have very different playstyles and levels of experience playing against each other.

Overwatch as a Spectator Game
Overwatch 2 is five versus five, hero-based team combat. The team fight moments are the highlight of watching a professional match. Both teams position, set up cooldowns, and then a fight breaks out that is often decided in a few seconds of well-coordinated execution. When both teams are at a high level, those exchanges are fast, skillful, and exciting to watch.
The hero selection and team composition also add a strategic layer. Which heroes a team runs, how they counter the opponent’s composition, and how they adapt across multiple maps these decisions show the coaching and preparation that goes into competing at this level.
