Cebu City Bans Gambling, VPNs On Government Internet

Cebu City has taken a strong step by blocking all access to gambling websites and VPNs on internet networks used in government offices. This rule is only for computers, Wi-Fi, and systems given by the government. The goal is to stop people from using public internet for online gambling or other unwanted activities during work.

Government Devices Now Protected from Gambling Sites

City leaders told all IT teams working in government departments to set up filters. These filters will stop anyone from opening gambling websites on government systems. This includes both local and foreign gambling sites. It will also block VPNs, which some people use to hide what they are doing online or bypass restrictions.

This change means no government office in Cebu City will be able to visit gambling platforms. It’s a move to keep taxpayer-funded internet focused only on useful work. Leaders believe this will also reduce online risks like viruses or hacking, which are common on shady gambling websites.

A Step Towards Safer and Smarter Internet Use

The city council said this rule will help everyone working in government offices use the internet more responsibly. Officials want people to use public internet only for work, not personal betting or entertainment.

As the government uses more technology for daily work, it becomes more important to keep it clean and focused. Gambling online, especially during office hours, doesn’t match the purpose of public service. The city wants to make sure all digital tools are used in a proper and useful way.

Extra Step for Digital Discipline

Apart from just blocking websites, this rule also asks government workers to follow good online habits. Trying to break the rules using tricks or VPNs will not be accepted. Instead, employees will be guided to use the internet smartly and ethically.

Why This Move Matters

Cebu City is setting an example for other cities in the Philippines. The message is clear government internet should be used for work, not for personal fun like online gambling. This step supports digital safety, better work habits, and the right use of public funds.
