Compatibility Issues For Switch 2: Over 100 Games Affected

The Nintendo Switch 2 is officially confirmed to be released on 5 June 2025. It promises several upgrades from its predecessor, including a larger display, improved controls, and enhanced audio quality. While it promises backward compatibility with most games from Nintendo Switch 1, recent testings have revealed over 100 titles that are facing significant compatibility issues with the device.

These problems include popular games like Fortnite and Wolfenstein II. The OG Nintendo Switch remains highly popular, with lifetime sales of over 139 million units, making it one of the best-selling consoles of all time. Given the strong fanbase and rich history, expectations are high for the Switch 2. However, as of now, it looks like the issues it’s facing can be bad news for both.

As of recent reports, these compatibility issues of Switch 2 can be categorized into three different categories. One has start-up issues, another has in-game compatibility issues, and the final one is completely incompatible with the games.

About 141 titles are experiencing start-up problems, which means they can’t boot on the Switch 2, including notable games like Fortnite, Dead by Daylight, Doom Eternal, Rocket League, and Warframe. Although there are speculations of a dedicated Switch 2 version for Fortnite, no release date is confirmed, which means there will be a solution eventually, but not anytime soon.

As for the in-game compatibility issues in Switch 2, a total of 47 titles are facing this problem, including major titles like Alien-Isolation, Fall Guys Overcooked! All You Can Eat. Additionally, there are a number of games that are playable but require an original Switch Joy-Con to run.

Some other games, like the Nintendo Labo Toy-Con 04: VR Kit, are among the games that are completely incompatible due to hardware limitations.

Nintendo is actively working with third-party developers to resolve these issues through updates or dedicated Switch 2 versions of affected games. Compatibility tests on Switch 2 are ongoing, and we will keep you updated, so stay tuned.
