Gaming monitors have made huge strides in the past few years, but Samsung Electronics may have just taken it to a whole new level with its latest Odyssey lineup.
The company officially announced its 2026 gaming and professional monitor line-up, and one announcement stood out above all the rest. Samsung says it has made the world’s first 6K gaming monitor.
That title belongs to the new 32 inch Samsung Odyssey G8 G80HS, a display that sounds more experimental than a monitor people will actually be able to buy this year. The screen has a refresh rate of 165Hz and can display full 6K resolution, which is way beyond the capability of most gaming setups today.
But the really interesting one is the Dual Mode feature. Players can opt to stay at full 6K for the most detail, or drop down to 3K and boost performance up to 330Hz. It’s essentially a game that has two very different experiences based on if you value the graphics or the pure competitive speed.
Samsung also launched a second version of the G8, aimed more squarely at esports and high-refresh gaming. The 27-inch Samsung Odyssey G8 G80HF features a 5K resolution at 180Hz, but supports switching to 360Hz at QHD through Dual Mode.
At this point monitor refresh rates are starting to get to numbers that only a few years ago sounded impossible.
Samsung Is Going All In On OLED Gaming
Apart from the regular G8 models, Samsung also launched the Samsung Odyssey OLED G8 G80SH series in 27 inch and 32 inch variants.
These OLED models have 4K resolution and a 240Hz refresh rate, ideal for gamers who want premium image quality but don’t want to compromise on smooth performance. Samsung says the displays also incorporate Glare Free technology, which aims to cut down on reflections without sacrificing the deep contrast OLED screens are known for.
The company is also heavily promoting its QD OLED tech, saying it’s brighter, more durable and more efficient than older OLED panels. The bigger 32 inch variant even achieved VESA DisplayHDR True Black 500 certification, which should help to deliver richer colours and deeper blacks during gameplay.
Samsung is offering support for DisplayPort 2.1 throughout the Odyssey lineup alongside AMD FreeSync Premium , NVIDIA G-Sync compatibility and HDR10+ Gaming. In simple terms, it’s pretty clear the focus is on more flowing visuals, quicker response times and better overall image quality.
Samsung also introduced a new member of its OLED family with the Samsung Odyssey OLED G7 G73SH. It comes with a 32 inch 4K OLED display, with a 165Hz refresh rate and a mind-blowing 0.03ms response time, making it another great option for competitive gamers.
Outside of gaming, Samsung also revealed its updated Samsung ViewFinity S8 series for professional users and creators.
The 40 inch model features a curved WUHD display, 144Hz refresh rate and Thunderbolt 5 support for high speed data transfer and charging up to 140W. The 27 inch version meanwhile offers 5K resolution with USB C connectivity for those focused on editing, multitasking and creative work.
Samsung has been one of the biggest names in gaming monitors for years now, but this latest lineup feels like the company is trying to push the industry forward once again. And if the 6K Odyssey G8 really delivers on what its specs promise, gaming displays could be entering a whole new era.
