Konami is once again experimenting with crossovers, and this time it brings a familiar anime world into its football universe. The latest update for eFootball introduces a limited-time collaboration with Naruto Shippuden, adding a different kind of energy to the game. Released alongside version 5.4.1 on April 30, the event runs until May 14 and focuses more on themed content than core gameplay changes.
The biggest attraction is the introduction of Naruto-inspired Epic cards. These aren’t just cosmetic tweaks, they mix real-world footballers with visual elements and effects pulled from the anime. Players can collect special versions of familiar names like Marcelo and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, while stars such as Neymar Jr., Takefusa Kubo, Martin Ødegaard, and Robert Lewandowski also feature as part of the wider campaign.

A different kind of crossover experience for eFootball
What makes this update feel a little more fun is the way the theme extends beyond player cards. In-game presentation has been redesigned with some Naruto-style touches like themed celebrations, stadium visuals and animated effects. From character-inspired projections of great size to subtle design tweaks, the aim is to make matches feel slightly different, without changing how the game actually plays.
The event is based on rewards and challenges. eFootball players can join limited-time events to earn tokens, unlock cosmetic items and access special packs. The Epic: Worldwide Clubs pack is very important here as it runs in the first phase of the campaign and more content is coming after maintenance updates.
The patch itself is simple enough outside of this collaboration. There have been a few additions like the Elite Lineage contract and refreshed Division rewards, but the main focus is clearly the crossover content.
This isn’t exactly new ground for Konami’s eFootball. As we’ve seen before with anime tie-ins, these sorts of partnerships can help keep players engaged when there’s a lull in major gameplay updates. Such events help to maintain interest with a large global player base already in place and bring something different to the experience.
Anime and football might not be what everybody expects but they are becoming more common. In this case, it provides players with a short, themed break from the usual routine, but keeps the core game intact.
