Day Two of the 11th Annual Sports Betting East Africa+ (SBEA+) Summit 2026 unfolded at the Argyle Grand Hotel in Nairobi as the programme moved into a full day of discussion, exchange, and practical insight.
The morning opened with Yudi Soetjiptadi, Founder & CEO of Eventus International, welcoming attendees and formally introducing Geoffrey Muindi, Managing Director, Gaming NewsByte, as the recently appointed Africa Ambassador for Eventus International, before Chairperson Thomas Buckley Opar Owuor, Lawyer & Gaming Consultant at Buckley Owuor & Co. Advocates, set the tone for the day’s programme and led into the sessions ahead.
As the day progressed, the room carried a clear sense of engagement, with speakers and attendees leaning into discussions that reflected the realities of sustainable operations across the region.
Among the standout sessions was Policy in Practice: Achieving Operational Readiness in Diverse Regulatory Environments, moderated by Thomas Buckley Opar Owuor, where regulators and operators unpacked the day-to-day demands of compliance, licence management, and navigating complex regulatory frameworks.
This was followed by Responsible by Design: From Regulation to Reality, moderated by Sabho Wambura, Partner at Vinnare Legal Chambers, which moved beyond principle and into execution, examining how responsible gaming is being embedded across operations with accountability and intent.
In the afternoon, Scaling Sustainably: Lessons from Leading East African Operators, moderated by Herbert Kungah, CEO at Sofapaka F.C., offered a grounded look at operational discipline, internal structures, and the realities of scaling within evolving markets.
Across the discussions, practical insights continued to surface. Timothy Kajja, Associate Partner at Engoru Mutebi Advocates, captured a key theme emerging from the day:
“There are many operators with similar products out there. So, what you need to sell to keep customers is a unique experience.”
Reflecting on the day, Crispus Mogere, Country Manager at betPawa, shared:
“Very engaging sessions, real conversations, practical insights, and a clear focus on what’s actually happening in the market.”
Gilbert Ouko, CEO and Head of Compliance at Diligence Advisory Africa, added:
“The SBEA+ Summit created an important space for practical dialogue on how regulation, innovation and operational readiness can evolve together. My biggest takeaway is that the future of gaming in Africa will be shaped not simply by growth, but by trust, responsible design and stronger regulatory alignment.”
These reflections carried through the audience, echoing the tone of the day’s discussions.
The evening concluded with SBEA+ Harmony, an exclusive gathering proudly sponsored by BetConstruct AI. Attendees were welcomed into an atmosphere filled with music, cultural performances, and a refined selection of local cuisine. The atmosphere shifted into one of ease and familiarity, where conversations flowed more freely, and connections deepened over the course of the evening.
With Day Two complete, attention now turns to the final day of the summit, where topics will centre on performance, innovation, and what lies ahead for the industry.
The Final Day
Day Three of the SBEA+ Summit is still ahead and there is still chance to be a part of the continuing discussions and the Startup Pitch Competition which brings fresh ideas into focus. Registration can be done via the official website of SBEA+ Summit.
