Microsoft has officially changed the name of its main Xbox social media account to XBOX after fans strongly supported the return of the classic all-caps style.
The move happened on May 15, 2026, after Xbox CEO Asha Sharma created a public poll asking players one simple question: “Xbox” or “XBOX”?
Thousands of fans voted, and the results clearly favored the old-school version of the brand name.
The decision is now being seen as part of a much larger identity reset happening inside Xbox.
Fans Choose The Classic XBOX Look
The poll received more than 19,000 votes, and around 64.8% of users selected “XBOX” instead of the mixed-case “Xbox.”
Shortly after the poll ended, Microsoft updated the official Xbox account name on X to the all-caps version.
However, this does not mean the company is legally changing the brand name everywhere. At the moment, platforms like Bluesky and Threads are still using the older mixed-case style.
The change is mainly connected to branding and marketing.
Why Microsoft Returned To All Caps
Long-time fans know that XBOX was originally written in all caps during the early years of the console brand.
The first Xbox console, along with Xbox 360 and later systems, heavily used bold all-caps logos in advertisements and packaging.
Over time, Microsoft slowly moved toward the softer “Xbox” style for official communication and corporate branding.
Now, the company appears to be bringing back the stronger and more aggressive identity that many older fans remember fondly.
Brand experts believe the return of the classic green styling and all-caps design creates nostalgia for gamers who grew up during the early Xbox era.
Part Of A Bigger Xbox Rebrand
The XBOX name update is not happening alone.
Since becoming CEO earlier this year, Asha Sharma has already introduced several major changes inside the gaming division.
In April, Microsoft reportedly retired the “Microsoft Gaming” identity and returned focus fully back to the Xbox name. A refreshed green glossy logo was also introduced as part of the redesign.
The company is trying to rebuild a stronger connection with fans after years of mixed reactions toward some Xbox business strategies.
Older campaigns like “Everything is an Xbox” and “This is an Xbox” focused heavily on cloud gaming and expanding the brand outside consoles. While those ideas attracted attention, many players still wanted a stronger focus on traditional gaming identity.
The return of XBOX seems designed to reconnect with that older fanbase.
Xbox Also Makes Changes To Game Pass
Alongside the branding updates, Microsoft has also adjusted pricing for some subscription services.
Reports say Game Pass Ultimate pricing dropped from $29.99 to $22.99 per month, while PC Game Pass pricing was also reduced.
Xbox FanFest is reportedly returning as well, giving players more community-focused events and activities.
These moves show that Microsoft is trying to strengthen the Xbox brand both visually and financially.
Nostalgia Is Playing A Big Role
One reason this small name change became so popular online is because it connects directly with gaming nostalgia.
For many players, the original XBOX era represented a bold and exciting time in gaming history. The green logo, strong branding, and competitive attitude helped Xbox stand out during the early console wars.
Now, Microsoft seems ready to bring some of that energy back again.
