What Rocket League Is
Rocket League is a football game with cars. That is an extreme understatement. At the pro level, Rocket League is aerials, dribbling, rotations, boost management, and split-second decisions that the human eye can barely follow in real time. In the pro ranks of Rocket League, players put in hundreds of hours of practice to be able to consistently hit ceiling shots, air dribbles, pinches and other highlight plays when it counts.
The game is on a five minute clock, meaning matches are dense. A five-minute professional Rocket League game can include eight to twelve goals, a couple of huge saves, some mechanical highlight moments, and a last thirty seconds of desperate defence or attack. The pace is furious and the score changes fast. It’s one of the most naturally exciting formats in esports to watch.
The Teams
Karmine Corp, Team Vitality and Gentle Mates are European outfits with solid Rocket League rosters. NRG and Shopify Rebellion bring competition to North America FURIA and MIBR represent South America. Team Falcons and Twisted Minds bring Middle Eastern and world competition to the pitch. They join Ninjas in Pyjamas, Spacestation Gaming, R8 Esports, Five Fears and TSM to form a field of sixteen genuinely competitive teams.
European teams have traditionally been very good at Rocket League. Karmine Corp and Team Vitality both have had good international runs over recent cycles. When they play in Paris it gives them an extra motivation that you can’t put a number on but it clearly matters to the players and their fans.
