Because she frequently competes in the top StarCraft II tournaments, Scarlett is renowned for being one of the most successful female players in the competitive gaming industry.

After defeating a number of top-tier competitors at a tournament in Las Vegas in 2012, Hostyn rose to prominence in the StarCraft II community. In 2013, she advanced in the StarCraft II world rankings to position 21 and finished second at NorthCon. Hostyn was the second-highest-paid professional female player in the world at the time by mid-2014 after winning seven tournaments. Hostyn gained more than $110,000 by the year 2014.

Hostyn has been referred to as the “Korean Kryptonite” and “the queen of StarCraft II” during her time playing the game. Her title as “the most accomplished woman in e-sports” was given by The New Yorker. The only finalist from a nation other than South Korea in the 2014 Red Bull Battle Grounds was she. She was selected by Polygon as one of the 50 most admirable gamers of 2014 and was identified as “one of the few women succeeding at the top level of the StarCraft II pro scene” in their article.

Hostyn made a comeback to StarCraft II as of June 2015, joining the Dead Pixels squad and playing in Korean leagues.

The 17th of August 2016 saw Scarlett join Team Expert.

Scarlett became the first female champion of a significant StarCraft II competition when she won the Intel Extreme Masters competition in February 2018, which was staged in preparation for the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang. Following that, Scarlett joined Newbee in November 2018.

Awards

On October 5, 2016, Scarlett was listed as having the “highest career earnings for a female competitive video game player” in the Guinness Book of Records.
