One of North America’s most popular esports teams, Team Envy, may be making a big return to Counter-Strike 2 (CS2). The team’s founder, Mike “hastr0” Rufail, recently shared some exciting posts on X (formerly Twitter), hinting that Envy could be back in the Counter-Strike scene very soon.
Let’s break down what’s happening and why this is such big news for fans of CS2.
Team Envy’s CEO Hints at a Big Comeback
This trophy is sitting in my dining room. We are seriously in rebuild mode. pic.twitter.com/ekOuS4476n

Hastr0 posted a photo of the DreamHack 2015 trophy, which Team Envy won during one of their best moments in CS:GO history. He mentioned that the trophy is still proudly sitting in his dining room.
In the same post, he said that Envy is going through a “serious rebuild.” Later, he added that both he and Envy’s co-owner, @DerangedNative, are actively working on plans to bring the team back.
This means they’re not just thinking about it they are seriously planning a return and are watching the CS2 scene closely.
We have to get @Envy back into Counter-Strike. We have begun to explore all opportunities and will jump on the right one when we find it. @DerangedNative and I are both excited to support a team.

Team Envy’s Legacy in Counter-Strike
Back in the CS:GO days, Team Envy was a top-tier team. Between 2015 and 2017, they were one of the strongest teams in the world. They won big events like DreamHack Open Cluj-Napoca 2015 and competed in many top tournaments.
Their roster included some of the biggest CS:GO legends like:
- kennyS
- apEX
- NBK-
- ScreaM
- karrigan
But in January 2021, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Team Envy decided to shut down their CS:GO team after facing poor results. Since then, they haven’t returned to the Counter-Strike world—until now.
Who Could Join the New Team Envy?
If Team Envy comes back, they’ll need strong players to rebuild their lineup. Luckily, there are several talented free agents right now.
Here are a few possible names they could sign:
- Degster – MVP of PGL Bucharest 2025 and one of the top AWPers available
- jks – Known for his smart play and experience
- Hooxi – A strong leader with solid IGL skills
- Perfecto – A great support player with major wins behind him
Adding a mix of young talent and veteran players could help Envy make a strong comeback in CS2.
