Valve officially announced that TI14 will feature the Swiss System for its Road to The International stage. Running from September 4 to September 7, this format will decide which teams make it to the next phase.

A 2-0 team will always face another 2-0 team, ensuring fair and competitive matchups. Every game counts, and the number of matches a team plays will depend on their performance.
Under this system:
- Teams need four wins to advance.
- Teams are eliminated after four losses.
- A team could play up to seven matches before securing a spot in the next round or getting eliminated.
Out of 16 teams, only 10 will advance to the elimination round, where five winners will secure a coveted spot in The International’s final phase.
