Vietnam Plans $2.16B Casino Resort In Van Don

Vietnam’s government is planning a huge new casino and tourism complex in Vân Đồn District, Quảng Ninh Province. The Ministry of Finance has sent a proposal to the Prime Minister for approval. The total cost of the project is $2.16 billion, and it could become one of the biggest casino resorts in the country.

What Is the Project About?

  • The casino and resort will be built in Vạn Yên Commune
  • It will cover around 244 hectares of land
  • It will be a luxury integrated resort – with hotels, games, and entertainment
  • The resort will have a 70-year license to operate
  • It will take up to 9 years to fully build the project
  • The construction will happen in 3 phases
  • The funding will come from investors and bank loans

Special Part – Vietnamese People Might Get to Play Too

Right now, most Vietnamese citizens can’t enter casinos. But in this proposal, the Ministry of Finance is asking the Prime Minister to allow a pilot program. That means:

  • Local people may be allowed to gamble in this casino
  • There will be strict rules and legal checks
  • This will be done under government control and permission

Before this, Vietnam had a trial program for local players, but it ended in December 2024. If approved again, this could be a big change for the country’s gambling rules.

Why Is This Project Important for Vietnam?

  • This project could help boost the economy in a big way
  • It will create many jobs for local people
  • It will help improve roads, buildings, and public services
  • It is expected to bring $9.67 billion (VNĐ229 trillion) to the state budget over the years

This casino will be a part of the Vân Đồn special administrative zone, which Vietnam wants to make a major tourist and investment hub.

Who Will Handle the Project?

  • The Quảng Ninh provincial government will choose the investors
  • All steps will follow Vietnam’s laws about investment and land use

This makes sure the project is transparent, legal, and beneficial for the country.
