Norway’s gambling regulator, Lottstift, has confirmed a serious issue in its online system. A technical problem went unnoticed for over 15 months, causing anonymous tips sent through their website not to be delivered. This means many important reports may have been lost without the agency ever seeing them.
Problem Went Undetected for Over a Year
The issue started in March 2024 and was only found in June 2025. Lottstift explained that tips submitted through the anonymous online form never reached their internal system due to this glitch.
Lottstift’s Director, Atle Hamar, spoke about the issue, saying:
“We are worried that we may have missed important tips and hope that people will resend their information.”
He added that the public’s help is very important to their work, and it was a serious mistake that the problem went unnoticed for so long.
Only Anonymous Reports Were Affected
The good news is that the error did not affect all types of tips. Only the anonymous online form was broken. Reports sent by:
- Phone
- Direct contact
They were all received correctly and were not affected by the issue.
Hundreds of Tips Could Be Gone Forever
In the past two months, Lottstift was able to recover 120 tips. However, due to privacy rules, many other messages were automatically deleted and cannot be recovered. They believe several hundred tips may be permanently lost.
“We have no exact number, but we will do a full review to make sure this does not happen again,” said Hamar.
System Is Now Fixed Public Asked to Resend Important Information
The technical fault has now been corrected, and Lottstift is asking people who sent anonymous tips during that time to resend them if possible. They also said they are working to make sure similar errors don’t happen again.
“We are reliant on tips from the public, and people must have confidence that their reports are received. This is a serious error, and it went far too long before we discovered it.”
