SBC Summit 2025 is preparing to take a closer look at one of the most complex and important areas in global gaming: Western Europe. A new conference track titled Global Markets, Western Europe will debut on Wednesday, 17 September at Lisbon’s Feira Internacional de Lisboa (FIL).
Focus on Western Europe’s Evolving Gaming Landscape
This dedicated track will explore how top operators are adapting to strict rules, growing pressure from regulators, changing player behavior, and fierce international competition. As part of the summit’s larger Global Markets lineup, the sessions will provide strategies and insights for success in countries with some of the toughest regulations, such as Italy, the Nordics, the Netherlands, and Portugal.
Whether you’re expanding into new markets or strengthening your existing position, these sessions will offer real, practical advice on staying compliant, engaging players, and pushing forward with innovation. Discussions will highlight new licensing processes, enhanced player protection laws, and how operators are navigating them.
SBC CEO and Founder Rasmus Sojmark shared his thoughts:
“Western Europe has long set the standard for gambling regulation, but the landscape continues to evolve. Today’s leading operators must build strong relationships with regulators, drive responsible innovation, and retain customers in an increasingly complex global environment. This track provides the practical insight and expert guidance delegates need to succeed in Western Europe.”
Key Sessions and Expert Panels
Kicking off the track is the European Leaders Panel: Old World, New Way Forward. This session brings together top executives to share how they’re responding to tighter regulations and working to keep players loyal in a competitive market. Speakers include Pascal Chaffard (FDJ), Axel Hefer (Tipico), Vlad Kaltenieks (BoyleSports), and Mattias Wedar (LeoVegas), with Martin Collins from Soft2bet moderating.
Italy will take center stage next with Italy’s New Online Gambling Regime: A Game-Changer for the Industry. The discussion will look at rising license costs, stricter rules, and stronger player safeguards. Panelists such as Fabio A. Bufalini (Stake), Marco Castaldo (Microgame), Will Shuckburgh (eCogra), Nicola Tani (Agipro), Stefano Tino (Betsson), and Marco Tiso (Sisal) will explore how these changes could impact market growth and sustainability.
Then comes Portugal: Smooth Sailing or Danger Ahead?, a session that examines the current state of the country’s gambling sector. As online casino play increases and sports betting slows, could more rules be on the way? Industry voices including Tiago Bessa (Vieira de Almeida), Tomas Goncalves (Apostas Sociais), Americo Loureiro (Solverde), Rui Magalhães (Estoril Sol Digital), Bernardo Neves (APAJO), and Tiago Pereira (LeBull.pt) will weigh in.
The track also features Over the Finnish Line, which will explore Finland’s upcoming regulatory changes as it prepares to open its market to private operators, and Dutch Courage, where experts will discuss proposed measures in the Netherlands, such as stricter deposit limits and a higher age requirement for online slots.
