For a lot of fans, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag was the moment the Assassin’s Creed series truly felt different. It was bigger, more adventurous, and fully embraced the pirate fantasy in a way very few games ever have. Now Ubisoft is bringing it back once again, but this time with more than just visual upgrades.
Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced is officially set to launch on July 9 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, and new details from the development team suggest this is going to be much more than a standard remaster.
According to game director Richard Knight, Resynced will include roughly six hours of completely new gameplay content compared to the original release. That includes additional quests, officer missions, and new activities designed to expand the overall experience for returning players.
For fans who already spent dozens of hours sailing around the Caribbean in the original game, that is a pretty big deal.
Black Flag was already packed with content back when it first released. Depending on how people played, the experience could last anywhere between 15 and 40 hours. Some focused mainly on the story, while others got completely lost exploring islands, hunting treasure, upgrading the Jackdaw, or taking down legendary ships across the open world. The new version seems designed to push that freedom even further.
Ubisoft Appears To Be Treating Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Like More Than Just A Simple Remaster
Part of the reason Black Flag stayed so popular over the years is because it never really felt limited to being “just another Assassin’s Creed game.” For many players, it became one of the best pirate games ever made.
The naval combat, sea exploration, tropical locations, and overall atmosphere gave the game its own identity. Sailing across the ocean while the crew sang sea shanties became one of the most memorable experiences in the franchise, and even now, fans still talk about Black Flag differently compared to most Assassin’s Creed titles. That is why expectations around Resynced are already so high.
Ubisoft has also confirmed that the game is being optimised specifically for PS5 Pro hardware. The developers reportedly plan to use PSSR 2 technology to improve performance and visual quality, which likely means smoother gameplay, upgraded lighting, sharper textures, and a more detailed world overall.
Even without the new missions, many players probably would have returned purely for the nostalgia factor alone. But adding several hours of fresh gameplay changes the feeling around the project completely. Instead of simply replaying an older game with better graphics, fans are actually getting new content inside one of Ubisoft’s most loved worlds.
After years of rumours about a Black Flag remake or remaster, Ubisoft finally seems ready to give the game the modern return fans have been waiting for.
