European Parliament President Metsola To Deliver Keynote At SiGMA Central Europe In Rome

Hon. Roberta Metsola, President of the European Parliament, and Hon. Antonio Tajani, Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, have both confirmed their attendance at  SiGMA Central Europe, which will take place in Rome from November 3 to 6.

President Metsola will open SiGMA’s first-ever Central Europe edition with a keynote address on November 4, followed by speeches from Hon. Tajani and SiGMA Founder Eman Pulis.

This highly anticipated event, set in the historic city of Rome, will bring together some of the most influential voices in government, policy, and public affairs. The conference will run across four stages, featuring notable figures such as Hon. Federico Freni, Undersecretary of State at Italy’s Ministry for Economy and Finance.

H.E. Roberta Metsola, President of the European Parliament

Roberta Metsola made history in January 2022 when she was elected as the youngest President of the European Parliament. In July 2024, she was re-elected for another term, becoming the second person and the first woman ever to serve two consecutive terms in this role.

Throughout her presidency, Metsola has been a strong advocate for Europe’s support of Ukraine following Russia’s invasion. On April 1, 2022, she became the first President of an EU institution to visit Ukraine since the war began. Under her leadership, the Parliament has moved toward becoming more modern, efficient, and accountable.

Metsola was first elected to the European Parliament in 2013. Before that, she served in Malta’s Permanent Representation to the EU and later worked as a legal advisor to the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.

During her student years, she actively campaigned for Malta’s EU membership. Professionally, she is a lawyer specializing in European law and politics. Born in 1979, Metsola is married to Ukko Metsola and is the proud mother of four boys.

Hon. Antonio Tajani: A Veteran of European Politics

Antonio Tajani, Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, began his career as a professional journalist in 1980. He has worked as a parliamentary reporter, anchor for GR1 Rai, and head of the Rome newsroom for Il Giornale.

A co-founder of Forza Italia, Tajani served as the party’s Vice President from 2018 to 2023 and as National Coordinator from 2021 to 2024. On February 24, 2024, he was unanimously elected National Secretary of Forza Italia. Since 2002, he has also served as Vice President of the European People’s Party.

Tajani was first elected to the European Parliament in 1994. His distinguished career includes serving as European Commissioner for Transport (2008) and later as Vice President and Commissioner for Industry and Entrepreneurship (2010). In January 2017, he was elected President of the European Parliament.

From 2019 to 2022, he chaired the Committee on Constitutional Affairs and the Conference of Committee Chairs of the European Parliament. Since October 2022, Tajani has been serving as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
