Clash of Clans recently added a brand-new spell called the Totem Spell. It arrived with the Town Hall 18 update released in November 2025. This update also introduced new troops, defenses, merged buildings, and many other changes. The Totem Spell is specially made to help players who struggle to handle strong enemy defenses during attacks.
This spell may look simple, but if used correctly, it can completely change how an attack plays out.
What Is the Totem Spell in Clash of Clans
The Totem Spell is a distraction-based spell. When you drop it on the battlefield, a strange rock appears from the ground. This rock deals a small amount of damage and briefly stuns nearby defenses.
The main strength of this spell is not damage. Instead, the rock attracts enemy defenses. As long as the rock is alive, nearby defenses will focus their attacks on it instead of your troops.
This gives your army valuable time to move forward and destroy key buildings.
Totem Spell Abilities and Stats
Once the Totem Spell is placed, it creates a rock with very high health. Until this rock is destroyed, defenses around it will keep attacking it.
The spell works on both ground and air defenses and only takes one housing space, which makes it very easy to fit into any army.
Totem Spell stats at level 1 are:
Total damage: 70
Stun duration: 0.2 seconds
Hitpoints: 10,000
Damage type: Area splash
Targets: All
Housing space: 1
Because of its huge hitpoints, the rock can survive for a long time under fire.
How to Unlock the Totem Spell
You do not need to unlock the Totem Spell separately. Once you upgrade your Town Hall to level 17, the spell becomes available automatically.
There is no extra building or research required to start using it.
Best Way to Use Totem Spell in Attacks
The Totem Spell works best against strong and dangerous defenses. It is very useful when your heroes or main troops are getting hit while trying to break through walls.
A good situation to use the Totem Spell is near Inferno Towers or the Town Hall. These buildings can quickly destroy heroes if they are exposed for too long.
When your ground troops are stuck breaking walls and taking heavy damage, drop the Totem Spell nearby. Enemy defenses will start attacking the rock instead, giving your troops extra time to break in and continue the attack.
This spell is also helpful during funnel creation and hero dives where timing is very important.
