Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight changes a lot of things fans were used to seeing in older Lego titles. Instead of throwing hundreds of playable characters into the game, this time the developers focused on a smaller roster where every character actually feels important.
Each hero comes with unique gadgets, puzzle-solving abilities, and movement options that unlock new areas around Gotham. Most characters are earned naturally through story progression, so you will not need to grind endlessly or rely on cheat codes to build your roster.
In total, there are seven main playable characters in the game, and every one of them brings something different to the experience.
Every Playable Character In Lego Batman And How To Unlock Them
Batman
Batman is your main playable hero in Lego Batman and the first character you properly unlock after the opening missions. While you begin as Bruce Wayne, it does not take long before Gotham’s Dark Knight officially enters the story. Batman uses gadgets like the Batclaw and Batarang throughout the game, while later upgrades unlock additional abilities such as explosive spray, UV vision, and X-ray scanning.
He remains one of the core characters for almost the entire game and cannot be removed during free roam sections.
Jim Gordon
Jim Gordon becomes playable during Chapter 1 of Lego Batman when Batman first begins operating in Gotham City. Gordon uses a Foam Sprayer to block pipes and a Rebound Launcher that fires bouncing projectiles. He also helps unlock several investigation-style side activities around the city.
Catwoman
Catwoman joins the story early in Chapter 2 of Lego Batman after Batman tracks Penguin to the zoo. She has several unique traversal abilities including climbing walls, breaking glass, opening safes, and controlling cats to move through vents. Her whip is also used to interact with switches and environmental puzzles.
Robin
Robin officially becomes playable in Chapter 3. His Birdarang works similarly to Batman’s Batarang but can target multiple objects at once. He also unlocks the Cable Launcher, which creates zipline-style pathways between buildings and objects.
Batgirl
Batgirl arrives at the beginning of Chapter 4 and focuses heavily on technology-based abilities. Her Hackarang lets players take control of electronic systems through small puzzle minigames, while her Drone can be used both during combat and exploration.
She is also needed to activate Gotham’s radio towers, which reveal hidden collectibles and activities on the map.
Nightwing
Nightwing unlocks near the end of Chapter 4 in Lego Batman after Robin evolves into his older identity. His upgraded gadgets gain electrical abilities, allowing him to activate generators and power systems around Gotham.
Talia al Ghul
Talia al Ghul becomes fully playable during Chapter 5. Her combat style focuses on stealth and mobility, using blowdarts to put enemies to sleep and a Ninja Dash ability that lets her teleport across gaps and broken pathways.
Compared to older Lego games, Legacy of the Dark Knight puts far more attention into making every character feel useful instead of simply filling the roster with extras. Because of that, unlocking new characters feels much more rewarding throughout the story.
