If you are playing solo, carry a heavy weapon. Surveyors take time to destroy, and they move around a lot. When they stop moving, their core becomes visible. This is the best moment to attack. Using a suppressed weapon is smart because it reduces noise and avoids drawing other enemies or players.
If you are in a squad, take the Surveyor down together. Team fire can destroy it quickly. After the fight, check all the dropped parts. Even the small pieces left behind can sometimes contain a Surveyor Vault.
